If you suffer from dry eye syndrome, you know exactly how uncomfortable it can be. The itchy red irritation can be very painful at times. This can be treated with various medications, but the key to treating dry eye in Bonita Springs FLorida is knowing the cause that triggers it. It can be a number of things or a combination of more than one cause that makes the symptoms of dry eyes so difficult to tolerate.

The envorinment can play a large part in suffering from dry eyes. If you work inside where air conditioning or dry heat (such as gas heat) is constantly used, this can cause frequent flare ups of dry eye syndrome. The same goes for working outside in certain environments. If you work in an area that is dry and windy, your chances of suffering from this condition may increase. If this area is also sandy, the wind blowing grit in and around your eyes constantly can be an instant trigger of dry eyes. Being exposed to the sun and high temperatures on a regular basis will also cause frequent eye irritation and redness.

Aging is also a common cause for dry eye syndrome. Just like the oils in our skin decrease as we age, our tear ducts also tend to become less moisturized over time. As we age the tear ducts can also become blocked which can make the eyes itch and become red and irritated.

Colds or allergies are also a prime cause for dry eyes. While this may be only temporary or seasonal, it is still very uncomfortable. Some cold and allergy medicines may relieve the symptoms, but sometimes the condition has to run its course until the cold has went away and allergy season is over.

Being exposed to smoke is also a cause for this condition. This is the case for both smokers and those who are exposed to second hand smoke. Some people are just very sensitive to smoke and being exposed to it can cause various health issues. In fact, if one is allergic to smoke, they may not be able to tolerate being around it even in wide open public places without instantly getting those red, watery, itchy eyes that are a symptom of dry eye syndrome.
